Weija Dam spillage triggers power outage in Accra West communities

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that flooding resulting from the controlled spillage of the Weija Dam has cut power to several communities in the Accra West Region, as water levels have submerged some distribution substations.

In a notice issued on Thursday, May 28, 2026, ECG stated that the outage being experienced in Ashbread, White Cross, Kinshasha, Tetegu and surrounding areas is directly attributable to flooding at some of its distribution substations following the spillage of the Weija dam by the Ghana Water Company Limited.

"ECG wishes to assure affected customers that our Engineers are monitoring the situation and will restore supply once the water levels subside, and it is safe to do so," the statement read.

The company expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to affected customers.
