The league table, which was put together by the Ghana Education Service of the Kpone Katamanso District Education Directorate, indicated that out of the 122 schools that wrote the BECE, the St Mark’s School Complex came first with a mean core aggregate of 7.45.

Out of the 11 candidates presented by the school for the BECE, two of them had aggregate six, four had aggregate seven, three had aggregate eight and two had aggregate nine.

In an interview with the Junior Graphic, the Director of the school, Mr Mark Afenyo, said the candidates were the school’s pioneers for the BECE.

According to Mr Afenyo, both management and parents worked hard to achieve this feat.

He said management monitored the progress of the students from JHS One where they were made to write a series of mock examinations till they wrote the BECE.

He added that students who were not performing well in some subjects were assigned subject teachers who assisted them every day after classes.

Mr Afenyo said aside from the normal days of classes from Monday to Friday, teachers organised extra classes for students on Saturdays and Sundays between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. solely to study Mathematics.

He said the students had four counsellors, two females and two males, who counselled the boys and girls on moral issues, as well as their choice of subjects and schools.

He commended the teachers for their selflessness which had yielded excellent results.
