More Ghanaians are becoming conscious of their diet and its impact on their weight and overall health. However, a major challenge is that most diet plans available online rely on foreign ingredients, making healthy eating seem like an expensive choice.

A food content creator, Miss Ama Boadiwaa, with over 70,000 followers on her Instagram page, @amaboadiwaa_gh, is changing this narrative. Her focus is on promoting healthy eating with a variety of meals made from locally available ingredients.

Unlike many food content creators who simply share recipes or videos, Miss Boadiwaa aims at inspiring her followers to eat healthy without straining their budgets. In addition to sharing nutritious recipes, she provides meal preparation hacks to save time and tips on how to store food ingredients for longer periods.

Personal journey turned passion
In an interview with The Mirror last Thursday, she revealed that her journey into creating healthy food content began as a personal decision to eat better.

The daughter of a caterer, Miss Boadiwaa initially started experimenting with healthy recipes she found online and shared them on her Instagram page. Before long, her page attracted a growing community of followers.

At the beginning, most of her recipes included expensive ingredients such as strawberries and kiwis. However, she soon shifted her focus to local alternatives, emphasising portion control. This meant ensuring that each meal was consumed in moderate quantities.

She also explored healthier cooking methods, such as baking instead of frying, to reduce oil and calorie intake.

“For instance, kelewele is a popular Ghanaian delicacy, but since it’s deep-fried, it contains a lot of oil. Now, instead of frying, I bake it—and it tastes just as delicious,” she explained.
What started as a personal journey has now evolved into a vibrant community of people passionate about eating healthy with local ingredients.

Expanding her reach
Miss Boadiwaa has gone a step further by publishing a cookbook featuring over 50 healthy recipes, meal prep tips and smoothie ideas.

An essential part of her content focuses on food storage. “Many of our local ingredients are seasonal, but with simple hacks, I can preserve them and enjoy my favourite meals all year round. When a particular ingredient is in season, I make sure my recipes highlight it,” she said.

Building a business out of healthy eating
From sharing free recipes and tips, Miss Boadiwaa has expanded into entrepreneurship with her brand, Healthyish. Through this platform, she offers meal prep essentials, meal plans, ready-to-blend smoothie packs, and wellness shots made from nutritious ingredients like ginger, beetroot and leafy greens.

“I realised that many people, especially busy professionals, wanted to eat healthy but didn’t have the time to prepare their meals. So, I provide them with guides to make healthy eating easier. The feedback has been very positive, proving that people need a service like this,” she shared.

From her personal experience, she has learned that one can still enjoy delicious local dishes, maintain a healthy weight, and stay fit—all through proper portion control and consistency.

Her ultimate goal is to establish Healthyish as Ghana’s leading health and wellness brand and eventually open a restaurant dedicated to serving nutritious meals.

Vision beyond recipes
One striking aspect of Miss Boadiwaa’s Instagram page is the high quality and clarity of her videos and pictures. She honed her photography and videography skills as her followership grew, ensuring her content remained visually appealing.

Looking ahead, she hopes to set up a food studio to help businesses in the food industry create engaging content that attracts their target audience.

With her growing influence and passion, Miss Boadiwaa is proving that healthy eating in Ghana doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated—it just takes the right mindset and approach.
