Bulk oil distributors chamber offers scholarship to fire victim

The Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD) has offered scholarship to a victim in the 2016 La Trade Fair fire explosion.

Michael Addo, 8, will be catered for from the basic school to tertiary level of education.

A seed money of GH¢20,000 has been placed in a trust account for him.

The young boy caught the eye of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CBOD, Mr Senyo Hosi, when the latter led a team from the chamber to donate to victims of the gas explosion, which occurred on December 22, 2016.

Master Addo was on admission for months leading to the deferment in fulfilling of the pledge.
But upon his discharge from hospital, the CBOD secured admission for him at Seven Great Princes Academy, a private boarding school in Accra.

Hope

Mr Hosi told the Daily Graphic that the CBOD team was moved by the young boy’s plight when its members went to the 37 Military Hospital to donate to victims, including Michael.

Mr Hosi expressed the hope that Master Addo would excel in his education to assume a leadership role one day.

Mother of the beneficiary, Madam Olivia Bansah, expressed gratitude to the CBOD for the kind gesture.

Michael and other family members were caught up in the fire when he had gone to visit his grandmother.

Background

The CBOD on December 26, 2016, donated GH¢11,000 to 22 of the victims of the La gas explosion at the 37 Military Hospital.

Each of the victims received a cash donation of GH¢500.

The chamber followed up a year later and donated GH¢50,000 to the burns unit.

The trade fair gas explosion claimed nine lives and injured 40 others.
