The awardees were drawn from the Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High School levels, as well as head teachers from the various Anglican Schools’ Unit.

The ceremony which took place last Thursday in Accra saw Francisca Ofosu Yeboah emerge as the Overall Best Teacher. She went home with a double-door refrigerator and a citation.

Others received fridges, certificates and citation, among others.

It was on the theme: “Empowering Minds; Nurturing Creativity and Innovation in the Anglican Schools”.

Innovation

The Regional Manager of the Anglican Education Unit, Marian Cobblah, said that education should not only impart knowledge, but should inspire learners to think critically in order to innovate fearlessly.

“This will equip them not only for academic success, but for life beyond the classroom. Today we celebrate our facilitators who have exemplified today's values through their hard work, dedication and ingenuity.

“Each award presented today is a testament to their commitment to excellence and their potential to make a significant impact on their communities and beyond,” she said.

Gratitude

She also expressed gratitude to all the hardworking district, municipal and metro directors, and others for their wonderful support and collaboration with the youth.

“Together we are building a nation that values learning. I pray that we enjoy the existing collaboration, especially regarding our transfers, postings and appointments,” Ms Cobblah stated.

Consequently, she called on stakeholders to empower the next generation and build an environment where creativity and new ideas were celebrated.

Awards, creativity

For her part, the Deputy Minister for the Interior, Naana Eyiah, said awards were a way to encourage good behaviour and friendship, among others.

“This is the reason why the Anglican Education Unit organises an awards ceremony every year to encourage its teachers.”

She added that as educational institutions continued to grow, the focus on creativity and innovation remained a critical aspect of effective teaching and learning.

“Encouraging creativity and innovation in schools is essential for preparing our children for a fast-changing world as they need to know how to generate new knowledge to meet the demands of the modern day.

“Modern-day workforce can make meaningful contributions to society. Besides, it has a profound impact on students' outcomes, as creative and innovative students are often better problem solvers,” she said.

Environment

Nonetheless, Ms Eyiah said, in measuring creativity and innovation in schools, the teachers' role could not be overlooked because teachers created a supportive and exciting learning environment that encouraged such creativity.

“Therefore, teachers should create a classroom atmosphere where students feel safe to express their ideas and take risks. This involves being open to students' suggestions, encouraging questions and contributions, and empowering all .

“Together, let us celebrate the outstanding achievements of teachers in our schools and try to create an environment where teachers in schools' management is not just a standard but a lived truth in all aspects of our schools,” Ms Eyiah said.
