“There is a need to promote perfection in our space. The space in which we operate is like a compound house where peaceful and trusting relationships should be built and maintained between the regulator and the regulated,” Prof. Jinapor told the participants.
The two-day summer school with the theme, “Towards effective governance and quality management in tertiary education institutions” among others was to provide the platform for stakeholders to share ideas, probe into existing practices, and proffer solutions for the perfection of tertiary educational delivery in the country.
It was attended by about 500 participants from colleges of education, traditional universities, technical universities, private operators in the tertiary education space, GTEC, colleges of agriculture and nursing and midwifery training institutions.
Prof. Jinapor said the summer school was going to be an annual event and would rotate from one region/institution to the other, preferably in a typical university setting which could host the programme and, therefore, invited the prepared/interested institution to get in touch with GTEC.
GTEC policy
Prof. Jinapor announced the need to review the GTEC policy to be in sync with the current state of tertiary education in the country and develop a GTEC policy manual to guide operations in the sector.
He urged stakeholders in the tertiary space to build a harmonious space which was essential for promoting growth, quality and productivity.
