The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has suspended all its services in response to the government's directive to freeze their July salaries.

The suspended services include attendance at meetings and congregation ceremonies, the provision of academic counselling, and the supervision of students in their halls of residence.

CETAG has indicated that this decision is a direct response to the Minister of Education's instruction to Principals and the Controller and Accountant General to withhold the validation of July 2024 salaries for teaching staff at the 46 public colleges of education, owing to their ongoing strike action.

"In an emergency meeting of the National Council held on 23rd July, council members unanimously resolved to withdraw all our services, including attendance at meetings, congregation ceremonies, the provision of academic counselling services, and the supervision of students in the halls of residence, with immediate effect until further notice," the association stated in a statement signed by the national president of the association, Prince Obeng-Himah dated 23rd July.

Furthermore, CETAG has referred the government's directive to freeze their July salaries to their legal representatives for appropriate action.

"Leadership has referred the illegal directive to freeze our July salaries to our lawyers for immediate necessary action," the association asserted.
