150 Children need support at Cardiothoracic Centre
One hundred and fifty children are still on the waiting list of the Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to undergo hole-in-heart surgery due to financial challenges.

Although the government takes care of half of the cost of the surgery, the parents of the children with hole-in-heart cases are unable to pay for the rest to enable their children to undergo the surgery.
A surgeon at the centre, Dr Kow Entsua-Mensah, made this known when the Retired Armed Forces Officers Wives Association (RAFOWA) presented GH¢4,000 to the centre to support surgical operations of hole-in-heart victims.
Appeal for support
According to him, parents or donations from benevolent members of the public were also expected to provide the other half to save the lives of innocent children.
Dr Entsua, therefore, appealed to the general public to come to the aid of the children.
He also said infections and German measles were major factors that caused the disease.
Presenting the cash, the President of the Retired Armed Forces Officers Wives Association, Mrs Christina Jones-Mensah said the donation formed part of the corporate social responsibility of the association and was to help reduce the cost of operating on hole-in-heart patients at the hospital.
Mrs Peace Asante, Principal Nursing Officer of the Cardiothoracic Centre, who received the cash on behalf of the centre, thanked the members of the association for the kind gesture.
