2 Bangladeshis arrested for human trafficking
Two Bangladeshis have been arrested by the Anti-Human Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons Unit (AHSTIP) of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for allegedly smuggling other Bangladeshi migrants into the country.

The two, Abu Naser and Mohammed Yousuf Khondakar, were arrested at Kasoa in the Central Region following a tip-off.
The arrest of the two suspects led to the arrest of six other Bangladeshis who were allegedly lured into the country by the two suspects under the pretext of sending them to South Africa to work there.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACOI) Francis Palmdeti investigations conducted by the unit revealed that the two suspects, with passport numbers AC0514757 and AE8013343, masterminded the smuggling of the other six into the country.
He said further investigations revealed that the six other suspects, who had outstayed their visitors’ visas by several months, were between the ages of 21 and 31.
They are Akbar Ali, Harun Mohammed, Mola Nasan, Mohammed Hossan Deluar, Faruk MD Omar Gazi and Hossan Monir.
He said the six, upon interrogation, indicated that they were lured into the country by the two, who promised to send them to South Africa, for which they paid $10,000 each.
Mr Palmdeti indicated that the GIS would not countenance the use of Ghana as a haven for human smuggling activities.

He, therefore, advised the public, including foreign nationals, against the practice, since it was contrary to the Immigration Amendment Act 2012, [Act 848].
