The suspects, Francis Mensah, 19, Forster Kwame Adu, 24, Peter Nuworto, 19, and Kwabena Darko, 28, are currently being held by the police.

Also in police custody are three others, Kwame Musa, 33, Awudu Amidu, 33, and Adamu Amadu, 32, all scrap dealers said to be their accomplices who sold the stolen items.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr Yaw Nketsiah-Yeboah, the Eastern Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, Mensah, Adu, Nuworto and Darko this year managed to pass through the roofs of 20 houses into the rooms in different parts of the municipality to steal various items such as television sets, textiles, jewellery and clothing.

Some of the houses that the gang ransacked are at Abotanso, Two Streams, Adweso, Old Estate, Kassadjan, Galloway and Acheampong.

Mr Nketsia-Yeboah said members of the gang and their accomplices were arrested after they had broken into a house at Abotanso on February 26 and another one on March 4 at the St James area.

He said during the St James raid which occurred about 11 a.m., Mensah scaled the fence wall of the house and entered one of the rooms through the ceiling when the victim, Madam Akosua Okyere, a trader, was not in and stole a number of items.

Mr Nketsia-Yeboah said Mensah destroyed the roofing sheets costing GH¢500 and took away 26 pieces of assorted wax prints, two kente cloths, gold watches and other jewellery all costing GH¢20,600.

He said the suspect gave some of the stolen items to Musa to sell.

He stated that following the thefts, a team of detectives managed to arrest the culprits who he said would be soon put before court charged with stealing and dishonestly receiving.

Mr Nketsia-Yeboah cautioned members of the public against buying items at very low prices, since such goods could be stolen items.
