The Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Michael Kpakpo Allotey has cautioned traders in the Central Business District (CBD) against giving money to persons claiming to act on his behalf to secure trading spaces.
He said this on Tuesday, August 19, when he paid an unannounced working visit to Okaishie in the CBD to enforce the Assembly’s red-line policy as part of the ongoing decongestion exercise.
“If you allow people to deceive you and collect money from you with the promise of securing a spot, you will only put yourself at risk,” he warned.
Mr Allotey stressed that his mandate was not to enrich himself but to ensure orderliness and cleanliness in the city.
“They did not bring me here for money. They brought me here to make sure Accra will be clean and that traders operate properly in the markets, so cars and pedestrians can move freely, ” he explained.
He warned traders to desist from leaving the environment dirty or face arrest.
He reminded the traders that he had visited the area several times to engage with them but noted that they had refused to adhere to the rules.
He stated that while the Assembly had consistently advised traders not to pack items on the roads for trading, many had turned a deaf ear.
Mr Allotey reiterated his commitment to enforcing discipline and order in the CBD to ensure a safe and accessible environment for both traders and the public.
