Afua Kobi Ampem girls donate to K’si Children’s Home
The Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ Senior High School in Kumasi last Saturday donated a quantity of assorted items running into hundreds of Ghana cedis and a sum of GH¢1,000 to the inmates of the Kumasi Children’s Home in commemoration of St Valentine.
More than 500 students were led by the school’s headmistress, Ms Agness Dadson, and the Housemistress of the Sir Justice House, Mrs Veronica Cleland-Okine, to present the items to the home. The students and their leaders interacted with the inmates as they celebrated the occasion with them.
It was the first time a second cycle institution was making a donation to the orphanage.
Officials of the home said they had been under intense pressure lately as they struggled to meet the daily needs of the inmates because the institution was experiencing hard times.
Ms Dadson said the presentation marked the beginning of a relationship between the two institutions that was expected to last long. She said the gesture was also to demonstrate the motherly love the Queenmother of Ashanti, Nana Afua Serwaa Kobi Ampem, had for the children.
The Assistant Superintendent of the Children’s Home, Ms Mabel Boamah, expressed her gratitude to the school on behalf of the children and the hope that other public-spirited persons and institutions would also assist the school either in cash or in kind.
