Amanfrom residents to stage protest against continuous robbery attacks

Residents of Top Town and American Farm at Ngleshie Amanfrom in the Ga South Municipality have threatened to embark on a demonstration to protest against armed robbery activities in the area.

According to them, the level of insecurity in the area was worrying, and thus it was time a permanent solution was found to the problem.

“We don’t want the police to come and patrol and go. We need their 24-hour presence in this area, an angry resident said in an interview with Graphiconline.

Another resident, Yaw expressed his displeasure at the inaction of the Ga South Municipal Committee to act on the robbery incidents.

“At least the Accra Regional Police Commander and his team have been here. However, the Ga South security committee has never been here. Meanwhile, Ngleshie Amanfrom is in the news virtually every day,” he said.

Decision

The decision of the residents to embark on a demonstration comes in the wake of an armed robbery attack last Sunday night resulting in the injury of two persons.

The robbers, numbering four and wielding guns and cutlasses made away with unspecified amount of moneys, six mobile phones, among other things.

Ordeals

Narrating their ordeal to Graphiconline, the victims, Paul and Stephen said they were asleep at about 2 a.m. when they heard a bag on their main door.

“By the time I realized three men in mask, wielding guns and cutlasses had entered our house. A fourth person also with gun stood outside to provide cover for his colleagues,” Paul said.

He said after collecting his mobile phones and money, one of them threatened to slash his three-month old daughter for no apparent reason.

“It was in the process of protecting my daughter that the cutlass cut my wrist,” he said.

For Stephen, it was after robbing Paul that the robbers entered his room. After collecting his phone and money, he said, they started beating him up, adding that it was in the process they slashed his leg.

Search

Some angry residents carrying various implements in search of the robbers on Monday morning said it was surprising that the visit by the Accra Regional Commander did not yield any result.

They threatened to lynch anyone caught breaking into the house of a resident.

“We will burn them alive if we catch them,” one resident wielding a cutlass said.

Attacks

Last Friday, a 15-year old girl on her way to the Kasoa market was attacked and stabbed on the left hand. After a struggle with the victim, they took her bag and bolted, amid gun shots.

A week before, the robbers had attacked about 15 houses, injuring their victims and making away with money and mobile phones.
