Ambassador Yaghi Ibrahim leads drive to boost Ghana–Malaysia economic cooperation

Efforts to deepen economic ties between Ghana and Malaysia have received a fresh boost following high-level discussions between Yaghi Ibrahim and officials of the High Commission of Malaysia in Accra.

During a courtesy call at the Malaysian mission in Accra, Ambassador Ibrahim, who serves as the African Union Agenda 2063 Assembly Ambassador for Sustainable African Industrialisation and Infrastructure, held talks with the Chargé d’Affaires focused on advancing trade and industrial cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting highlighted a shift towards more practical engagement, with both sides signalling a desire to move beyond diplomatic relations to tangible economic outcomes that can benefit businesses and industries in Ghana and Malaysia.

Central to the discussions was the commodities sector, where both countries are seen as having competitive strengths. The dialogue explored ways to boost value addition, enhance trade flows and create partnerships that could unlock new commercial opportunities.

Participants also examined strategies aimed at improving cross-border trade efficiency, including investment promotion, knowledge transfer and the adoption of technology to strengthen supply chains.

Ambassador Ibrahim stressed the importance of international partnerships in driving Africa’s industrialisation agenda, noting that collaboration with Malaysia could support capacity building and innovation across key sectors.

The engagement further underscored the growing role of private sector actors in shaping economic diplomacy, with industry-driven perspectives increasingly influencing policy and investment decisions.

Both parties concluded the meeting with a commitment to sustained dialogue and the development of concrete initiatives designed to translate the discussions into measurable economic gains, reinforcing long-standing ties between Ghana and Malaysia.
