Ankaful crisis: Nurses reject MD’s “insincere” apology
Nurses at the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital have rejected the apology from their Medical Director describing it as “insincere.”
Dr. Eugene Dordoye on Thursday apologized unreservedly to staff and nurses after a strike by the nurses crippled activities at the hospital.

“I admit I sometimes went overboard either carrying out some of these changes or teaching clinicians (nurses and prescribers) about the patients’ conditions during review of the patients which sometimes to them were very embarrassing.
“I apologize unreservedly to all staff of Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital who have been hurt by my approach, the CEO, MHA, Central Regional Minister, Health Minister and all others affected and I will surely improve and manage the change better than I have done in the past going forward,” Dr. Dordoye stated.
But his apology has been rejected by the Nurses. The nurses are also claiming that they haven’t received any invitation from the Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman Manu to come to Accra for a meeting to resolve their grievances.
The strike by the nurses has entered day two at the mental home despite the call for them to call off their strike.
The nurses are not admitting new patients with many new patients stranded at the entrance of the facility.
According to the nurses, they will only call off their strike when the head of the hospital Dr. Dordoye is relieved of his duties.

Meanwhile, a lawyer and lecturer with the University of Cape Coast Dr. Kojo Tufuor has described the call for the head of the facility as misplaced.
According to him, the nurses have no business asking for him to be sacked as it is against the labour law especially when the appointing authority view Dr. Dordoye as the best brain to manage the place.
He explained that instead of the nurses demonstrating and calling for the head of the director, they should rather engage the appointing authority to address their concerns and not take the law into their own hands.
