He was of the view that such colloboration would reduce the pressure on health facilities because of infrastructure difficulties.

Dr Yabani made the call when he inaugurated refurbished wards of the Aponchie Memorial Herbal Clinic in Tema.

The clinic is noted for its capacity to treat broken bones and severe fractures with herbs.

Dr Yabani observed that given proper guidance, the traditional medicine sector could be translated into positive outcomes for the health sector.

According to him, there was the need for the Medical Health Directorate to collaborate with traditional health centres to exchange ideas where necessary to build a strong and firm foundation for the health sector.

Dr Yabani called on traditional health institutions to open up and recognise members who were performing well within the terms of national health policy to help eliminate the quacks .

He said the Tema Metropolitan Health Directorate had extended  a hand of support to the Aponchie Memorial Herbal Clinic to help upgrade the staff in some related areas of medicine .

He urged the management of the clinic to ensure that they put into practice the training offered them by  the Metropolitan Health Directorate to help build public confidence in their practice.

Attitude

The  Board Chairman of the Aponchie Memorial Herbal Clinic,  Mr Kwasi Afriyie Badu, expressed worry over the government’s attitude towards the traditional medical unit in the health sector.

The Managing Director of the Aponchie Memorial Herbal Clinic , Mr Paul Nyankom, said the centre had 45 beds but would need more because of the ever-increasing number of clients at the centre.

He said students from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and some Canadian universities had undergone internship at the centre.
