The beneficiaries are the Ghana Police Service (GPS), the Martha Forson Foundation for Widows and the Light House Christian Children’s Orphanage in Accra.

The police administration received 70 high density mattresses to be used by personnel of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) while on peacekeeping in South Sudan. The foundation and the orphanage each received 25 student mattresses and five large ones.

The Financial Administrator of Ashfoam, Mr William George Forson, who presented the items, said the gesture was in fulfilment of the company's corporate social responsibility.

He explained that although the company’s responsibility to that effect was normally geared towards the education and health sectors, its management thought it wise to support the three institutions, particularly the police service, after they had made a request to the company.

Police grateful

The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of International Relations, Mr Michael Avadetsi, who received the items on behalf of the police administration, commended Ashfoam for the gesture.

He said the matresses would form part of the support package for over 200 personnel who would be deployed to South Sudan on peacekeeping.

“This is the first time the police were deploying personnel from the FPU to the troubled region of Southern Sudan,” Mr Avadetsi said.
