Assembly presents furniture to schools

The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly has presented a set of furniture to three primary schools in the municipality. The three schools that benefited from the presentation were the Baba Yara Basic School, Immanuel Presby Basic Schools and the Aisha Bintu Khalifah Islamic Primary School.

Some of the schools which are also to benefit from the presentation are the La Nkwantanang Cluster of Schools, Madina M/A 1-4 primary schools, Fire Armour Schools, Pantang Village and Hospital Schools, and West African Secondary School (WASS) Primary School.

Others are Otinibi, Danfa, Umar Bon-Hatab, Oyarifa and Kweiman primary schools.  

As part of the initiative to help improve education in the municipality, the assembly is currently constructing a six-seater water closet facility at the Baba Yara School and also putting measures in place to fence the Fire Armour Schools to check encroachment and provide security to safeguard the children.

Essence of the presentation

The Municipal Chief Executive of the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly, Mr Franklin P. Anku, said the presentation was in response to requests made by the various school authorities through the education directorate.

According to him, his office, aside the presentations, will pay critical attention to teacher absenteeism in the municipality, since the practice is a canker hampering education in the country. 

He further advised the various school authorities to contribute their quota to raise the academic standard in the municipality by paying critical attention to nurturing the talents of the schoolchildren. 

Commendation

Receiving the furniture on behalf of the beneficiary schools, a Planning and Budgeting Officer at the municipal education office, Mr Peter Ngala, who represented the Director of Education of the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Education, Mrs Elizabeth Oduro Mensah, said the presentation would help provide a conducive learning environment in the various schools.

Beneficiary’s response

Receiving the furniture on behalf of his school, the Headmaster of Immanuel Presby Basic Schools, Mr Samuel Nketia-Dardom, said the presentation had come at an appropriate time when the school was  facing many challenges pertaining to inadequate furniture that was hampering academic work in the school. 

He appealed to the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to help construct additional classrooms to enable the school authorities to enroll more students.
