Asuom Health Centre gets 24-bed facility

A new 24-bed facility attached to the Asuom Health Centre in the Kwaebibirem Municipality of the Eastern Region has been inaugurated.

The GH¢1.36 million health facility, which was funded through the Ghana Oil Palm Development Company's (GOPDC) corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, is to improve healthcare delivery in its catchment areas.

The facility is equipped with cutting-edge beds, patient monitors with stands, ward screens and furniture, among others.

Additionally, the old block of the health centre has been repainted to ensure a conducive environment for both patients and healthcare workers.

Pressing need

The newly constructed building will also address the pressing need for expanded healthcare services at Asuom, where the growing population has outpaced available facilities.

At a short inaugural ceremony at Asuom last Tuesday, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GOPDC, Shetty Gangadhar, emphasised the company's commitment to community development, especially in its operational areas.

He said with the facility, GOPDC had demonstrated its dedication to bridging the healthcare infrastructure gap to enhance the overall well-being of people in the communities that it served.

Mr Gangadhar stated that investing in health infrastructure was not just a duty but an essential opportunity to improve lives, adding that the company's success had been deeply connected to the welfare of communities within its catchment areas.

He told the gathering that the health facility formed part of the company's broader community development initiatives estimated at over GH¢2.7 million.

Scholarship scheme

That, the CEO indicated, included a scholarship scheme, an ICT laboratory, dormitories, mechanised boreholes, road maintenance and refurbishment of existing healthcare facilities in the area.

He explained that the company's sustained investments in community development underscored its commitment to be a responsible corporate entity to enhance healthcare, education and economic opportunities.

The GOPDC, Mr Gangadhar stated, would continue to demonstrate its commitment to improved living conditions of those in its operational areas.

The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, who was in attendance, applauded GOPDC's initiative and stated that the new facility was a testament to the company's dedication to the people's well-being.

He urged the health professionals to prioritise patient's quality healthcare to ensure that the facility served its purpose.
