The atmospheric water generator, known as Ecowatertec, can generate 28 litres of water for households in a day and between 500 to 5,000 litres for industries.

The machine, which could also be connected to a flowing tap to filter the water, is targeted at households in communities and industries that lack access to clean drinking water.

The product uses an electrostatic filter to absorb air from the atmosphere, and a compressor to convert it into raw water by a condenser, after which the water goes through various stages of purification.

The water is later stored in a tank which has as additional ultra violet light to kill any bacteria in the water before being dispensed.

Product launch

Launching the product in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer of the ETIC Group Ghana, Mr John K. Gbenyedzi, stated that the device was the first of its kind to be launched in Ghana and Africa as a whole.

According to him, pure drinking water is one of the biggest challenges facing Africa today, as most water sources have been contaminated by sewage and agriculture runoff.

Technology to extract water

He said health, nutrition and food production were dependent on the availability of water in adequate quantities and good quality.

Mr Gbenyedzi stated that the atmosphere contained 10 times the volume of clean and fresh water than water from all areas combined and added that “we have the technology to extract it.”
