ATRACO Demonstration School holds first graduation
The Accra College of Education (ATRACO) Demonstration School has held its maiden graduation ceremony for its first batch of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduands.
In all, 47 graduands, made up of 26 girls and 21 boys, were prepared for the BECE that was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the ceremony, the Headmistress for the school, Ms Doris Akosua Aku, said the high calibre of qualified professional teachers had contributed to enhance academic performance in the school.

She said the school performed creditably by clinching first positions in English reading, debate, science, ICT and mathematics quiz competitions organised by the circuit.
“Learning has not been limited to the confines of the classroom,” she said, and that “students embark upon a couple of field trips.”
Moreover, she said Open Days had been organised to offer parents the opportunity to come to the school to have first-hand information on their children’s general performance.
Ms Aku disclosed that disciplinary challenges had been kept at bay by dint of the hard work of management, but admitted the school had not performed well in the field of sports adding that efforts were being made to improve on that performance.
Importance of education
In an address, a member of the parent teacher association (PTA) of the school, Mr Alex K. Appiah Ackah, commended the headteacher and the staff of the school for working hard to make the school now a preferred choice for many parents, because of the thorough unique curriculum that aligned to the needs of students.
He advised the graduating students to stay focused on their academic endeavours and let the investment made in them produce positive results.

“Your academic journey is not over yet and you must be clear on the end result and how you wish to get there. You will face many challenges but this is what the real world is all about and the next phase in your life is a great training ground for your future success,” he said.
In a farewell speech, the school prefect, Master Joseph Kweku Ntiri Ackah Junior, said as the first school prefect of the school, he and his co-prefects had shown exemplary leadership devoid of rancour and gave their best to maintain discipline while performing their duties.
He advised the continuing students to take their studies seriously, take instructions and remain respectful at all times.
Background
The school, constructed under the Millennium City Schools project of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and funded by the World Bank under the Local Government Capacity project, became operational on Tuesday, September 12, 2017.

Awards were presented to students who excelled in the various subjects. They each received a certificate, a textbook and a gift voucher.
