Ayawaso: Abelemkpe Primary '2' Basic wins Independence Parade

Abelemkpe Primary '2' Basic School were last Friday named winners of the Independence Day Parade held for schools in the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly in Accra.

La Bawaleshie Basic and Aframa Academy placed second and third respectively in the contest which was graded by a team of officers from the Ghana army.

The schools were judged based on turnout, alignment and overall marching by their respective contingent.

Abelemkpe won with a score of 96% with La Bawaleshie and Aframa Academy scoring 92% and 89% respectively.

La Bawaleshie Presby Basic 2 pipped Espo Best Child School, East Legon to emerge the best cadet contingent of the parade.

The three schools received a plaque and a desktop computer each for their efforts.

Contest

A total of 18 public and private basic schools participated in the contest held at the La Bawaleshie Presby School, East Legon.

The parade was interspersed by a cultural display and choreography by some of the students with the Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah among the dignitaries in attendance.

Addressing the parade, the Municipal Director of Education, Madam Margaret Kaba commended the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, Mrs Sandra Owusu Ahinkorah for the gains the municipality has made in improving education.

She said she was aware the MCE was making efforts to acquire a piece of land for the construction of a Senior High School which will bring education closer to residents and reduce the costs associated with pursuing education in the municipality.

Madam Kaba also expressed gratitude to the MCE and Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West, Madam Lydia Alhassan for providing furniture, new classrooms and school-feeding canteens for the existing public schools in the area.
