Boy, 12, granted bail after shooting friend

A 12-year-old boy (name withheld) has been granted bail after he accidentally shot his friend, Hafiz Yahaya, at Bomiyiri in Wa on Monday.

The boy was said to have been fidgeting with his father’s pistol when the gun went off and hit Yahaya in the right shoulder.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Upper West Regional Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Daniel Kwentwi, said the boy and his sister had gone into their father’s bedroom to look for bread at the time when the father had gone to an adjoining house.

The boy and the sister could not find any bread in their father’s drawer but rather found a pistol.

According to the police, the boy picked the gun, but while fidgeting with it, it went off, hitting the right shoulder of Yahaya, who was standing at the entrance to the room.
Yahaya was quickly rushed to the Wa Regional Hospital where he is responding to treatment.
