British woman found dead in Koforidua hotel

A female British national has been found dead in a hotel room in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

The body of the deceased was found on March 20, three days after her Ghanaian husband, Prophet Isaiah Adubrefoh, had checked out of the Royal Mac Dic Plaza, where they were lodging.

The deceased was named as Mrs Shamin Adubrefoh.

Confirming the incident to newsmen in Koforidua, the Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr James Abass Abaah, said the lady and her husband checked into the hotel on March 16 and were scheduled to check out on March 21.

He said the husband, however, checked out en-route to Europe the next day, with specific instructions that the wife did not want to be disturbed and would, therefore, call the reception if she needed anything.

According to Mr Abaah, between March 18 and 20, the lady neither called the reception nor came out of her room.

Checkout time

However, when the checkout time was due, the hotel workers found the door to her room locked and decided to force it open only to find the woman dead.

Mr Abaah said the body of Mrs Adubrefoh had been deposited at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for autopsy, while the husband had returned to Ghana to assist in investigations.

Meanwhile, workers and officials of the hotel were tight-lipped when the Daily Graphic visited the facility to make further enquires about the matter.

One of the workers who spoke on the grounds of anonymity said business was progressing as usual.

The hotel is one of the leading tourism facilities in the Eastern Region which is patronised by locals and international tourists and visitors.
