Madam Elisabeth Asantewaa suffered a bomb attack as a little girl when she presented a bouquet to Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of the Republic of Ghana, in 1965 during a national event.

The donation was in response to a call made by her during an interview by Multi TV when she appealed for assistance since she had been surviving on the benevolence of others. She expressed regret and sorrow over her current condition.

the management and staff of the bank decided to support her and make life meaningful for her.

Presenting the cheque and the wheelchair to Madam Asantewaa, the Head of Human Resources, Mr Samuel Kwame Boafo, said as a corporate family, they chose to assist her because of the dedication, selflessness and sacrifice she exhibited at that state function where she was rendered incapacitated.

He added that a premium account had been opened at CAL Bank for her as seed money where she would be able to reap some interest for her daily upkeep.

According to Mr Boafo, she deserved a better life.

He noted that she had nobody to look up to; “she crawls on her amputated leg and almost decayed foot before she comes out of her room to get help from others.”

"Why must we allow this woman who dedicated her life as a child for her nation to suffer and be left to rot? " he enquired.

He noted that CAL Bank would continue to help meet her other needs and, therefore, called on other institutions and individuals to come to her aid so that she would be able to live the rest of her life in happiness.

"I wish that all politicians and philanthropists will see her sacrifice and give her a better opportunity to make life meaningful by coming to her aid," he added.

Madam Asantewaa was full of praise for the management and staff of CAL Bank for their kindness, saying that she will continue to pray for them to reap more benefits in their business.
