CHAG condemns banishment of hospital manager

The Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) has described the banishment of the Manager of the Presbyterian Hospital at Dormaa, Mr Fred Effah Yeboah, from the town as unfortunate and a worrying development for health care delivery.

It described the action of the Dormaahene as hasty, premature, knee-jerk and without recourse to fundamental human rights, natural justice and fairness.

A statement signed by the Executive Director of the CHAG, Dr Gilbert Buckle, said “we do recognise that this impasse, if not addressed properly, could further negate the previously existing spirit of community ownership and participation in health care delivery in Dormaa and its environs, as well as serve as a bad precedence for relationships between our member churches and traditional rulers in the area of health care delivery.”

The Daily Graphic on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 published the story with the headline: “Hospital Administrator flees Dormaa as traditional authorities banish him”.

According to the story, the banishment was made by the Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, on Monday, February 17, 2014 while sitting in state.

In the statement, the association, therefore, “requested the good people of Ghana particularly the ministers for Chieftaincy Affairs and the Brong Ahafo Region, the President of the National House of Chiefs and the President of the National Peace Council, to prevail upon the Dormaahene to rescind his decision to banish Mr Fred Effah Yeboah, the General Manager of the hospital”.

It also stressed the need for the Dormaahene to guarantee the security and safety of the staff of the Presbyterian Hospital and in particular, Mr Yeboah.

It further called on them to facilitate an appropriate and amicable solution  to the impasse in the interest of ensuring access to quality and comprehensive healthcare for the people of Dormaa.
