They agreed that the newspaper reviews as presently carried out in the electronic media were injurious to the print industry.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), Private Newspapers Printers Association of Ghana, New Times Corporation, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and Graphic Communications Group Ltd at the Graphic Head Office yesterday.

The meeting agreed that the National Media Commission should be approached to help develop guidelines for newspaper reviews that would be mutually beneficial to the print and electronic media.

As a sign of their commitment, a three-member committee was constituted to come up with proposals of best practices on newspaper reviews to be used by PRINPAG to educate its members. The proposals will also constitute the material the NMC would use to develop the guidelines.

The representatives of GIBA offered to educate their members within one month as a basis for the enforcement of any rules that would be consequently adopted.

The meeting agreed that guidelines developed by industry practitioners would be effective and beneficial to industry players and, therefore, called for support from all the industry players.
