He said the decision of the current Mahama administration to provide subsidy for the premix fuel and also to make it available and affordable was a step in the right direction, as it was positively affecting the lives of fishers and fishmongers in the country.

Nene Ossom I commended the government at a forum held at Akateng for members of the National Premix Fuel Committee to interact with fishermen and members of the Landing Beach Committees in the Upper Manya District.

He said the premix fuel, in addition to helping the fishermen in the community facilitated the transportation and movement of people and traders in the riverine areas from Akateng to Fanteakwa, Ekyi Amanfro, Afram Plains North and South, Dzemeni and parts of the Volta Region.

The Chairman of the National Premix Fuel Committee, Mr Kweku Sersah-Johnson, assured the fishermen and fishmongers that the committee, in collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MoFAD) would continue to ensure that premix fuel and other fishing equipment such as outboard motors and fishing nets were made available and affordable to enhance the fishing industry in the country.

He said the Premix Fuel Committee was also working with MoFAD in procuring aluminum pans for women to support their fishing trade and that the government would ensure that the fishing industry developed to an appreciable standard and improve the lives of the fisher folk.
