The businessman, who was shot in the lower abdomen, was pronounced dead moments after he was rushed to the Tema General Hospital.

The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. when the businessman, identified only as Ma, was supervising construction work at his casino.

A worker at the site, Mr David Quarshie, who was mixing concrete at the entrance of the facility at the time of the incident, told the Daily Graphic that  the gunman went to the site around 9:25 a.m.

According to him, the assailant, who had bandaged his right arm, climbed up the stairs to where the businessman was.

"Moments after he had climbed up the stairs, we heard an unusual noise, and thinking it was one of our colleagues who had fallen from the top, we attempted to climb the stairs to see what was wrong, only for the assailant to rush out of the structure,” he said.

Mr Quarshie said the businessman also ran after him, with blood oozing from his lower abdomen.

He said Ma fell on the concrete at the entrance of the facility.

"When it dawned on us that the assailant was the one who had shot him, my colleagues rushed out of the building to look out for his identity but he jumped into a vehicle parked nearby, with three occupants in it, and sped off," he added.

Mr Quarshie said although they had never seen the assailant before, they could not question him when he came to the site.

"It is common among all Chinese people. They often come to the site to see the boss, but will not even look at us and so we saw no need to question him when he walked past us," he explained.

Police information

The Tema Community One Police, who have since transferred the body of the deceased to the Police Hospital mortuary, could not provide adequate information on the incident.
