CoMSSA urges caution on political actors

The Communication and Media Studies Students Association (CoMSSA) of the Department of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Education Winneba, is asking all political actors in the 2016 elections to be mindful of what they communicate.

The association said traditional authorities, the youth and political parties in particular need to measure their communication carefully in order to ensure Ghana remains peaceful especially as the country prepares to go to the poles.

It said chiefs need to be mindful of what they say when political leaders call on them during this period as their expressions will go a long way to determine the sustainability, peace and cohesion of the country, while the youth should consider the stability of the country when on the campaign trail and for political parties, to articulate policies that would positively improve the livelihood of the citizenry.

CoMSSA served the admonitions in a statement it issued Thursday to announce a week long celebration of the 9th anniversary of its formation.

“Above all, television and radio-show hosts, columnist, news readers, editors, producers and political communicators should be objective when moderating, interviewing, commenting, and more critically when putting out materials on air since their actions are crucial to the stability and unification of the nation,” it said.

The celebration starts from Monday, April 4, 2016 to Sunday, April 10 on the theme “Communication Strategies and Election 2016: A focus on traditional authorities, youth and political parties”, and aims at sensitising the public on activities and programmes of the Department, as well as other pertinent issues involving the media and the Ghanaian public in election 2016.

The Communication and Media Studies Students Association is a student association for Masters of Arts (MA) and Masters of Philosophy (MPhil) students pursuing communication and media studies under the supervision of the Department of Communication and Media Studies in the University of Education, Winneba.
