Judicial Service staff begin indefinite strike

The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSSAG) begins an indefinite nationwide strike today, directed by its National Executive Council.

According to JUSSAG, the strike is to protest government delay in the implementation of a new service condition approved by the Judicial Council, as well as salary arrears.

Work across courts in the country is therefore expected to grind to a halt.

Alex Nartey, President of JUSSAG who announced the strike Thursday, said the government had not taken their issues seriously enough, describing the setting up of a five member committee by President John Mahama to commence negotiations on the conditions of service as an unfair turn nine months after the association served enough notice of its grievances.

He said setting up the committee was only an attempt to delay the implementation of the approved salaries.

JUSSAG last May downed their tools for a similar cause but returned to work following assurances by government to address their issues.
