Conman arrested for defrauding five prospective army recruits

A 34-year-old self-styled Colonel has been arrested for allegedly defrauding five persons of GH¢12,979 on the pretext of enlisting them in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Police Service.

The suspect, Dramani Sulemana John is an ex-soldier, who was a Sergeant at the GAF Education Unit as a map reader in 2012, and who was said to have gone Absent Without official Leave (AWOL) and never returned. He succeeded in collecting GH¢2,600 each from his victims.

The five victims lodged a complaint with the police against the suspect after he had been arrested for allegedly stealing a car in Accra and sending it to Tamale with the intention to sell. 

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Ebenezer Tetteh, who briefed the Daily Graphic, said the five victims lodged the complaint after news of Dramani’s earlier arrest for stealing became public..

ASP Tetteh said Dramani had since been remanded for stealing and had now been charge with defrauding in addition to the earlier offence of stealing.
