Court grants bail to suspects who attacked Wa NADMO office

The five suspects remanded in prison custody for allegedly attacking the offices of the Upper West Regional Office of the National Disaster and Management Organisation (NADMO) have been granted a GH¢5,000 bail with two sureties each.

Four others who tended themselves in to the police following the attack have also been granted the same bail terms.

The nine, who are standing trial for conspiracy to commit crime, threat of harm, assault and stealing, have, however pleaded not guilty to each of the four charges.

They are to reappear on Monday, February 12.

Background

The nine are said to have last Wednesday assaulted the personal security officer of the regional boss of NADMO, Mr Seidu Sulemana, over internal party matters involving the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

They are said to have beaten up the security officer, Mr Seidu Osman, and allegedly stole GH¢5,000.

Concluded investigations

The Presiding Judge, Mr Baah Forson Agyapong, granted all nine suspects bail after the prosecution led by Chief Inspector D.Y. Yeboah announced it had concluded with investigations, and was ready for the trial.

On Friday, February 2, the court remanded Issahaku Bongaamwine, Abdulai Hakim, Nuhu Suglo, Seidu Salifu and Kamal Ishmail following their arrests for their involvement in the case.

On Thursday, February 8, four others – Kasim Dramani, Nuhu Mhammed, Dakura Peter and Issah Salifu – tended themselves in to the police, and they were also remanded into prison custody after being arraigned before court.

But all nine, who were handcuffed to court under heavy police guard, walked out without any physical restrictions when their remand in custody was reviewed to respective bails.
