Kwabena Mensah and another security accomplice, who is at large, armed themselves with machetes and attacked the administrator of the Labone branch of the IPMC at 12.30 p.m. on February 1, 2015.

Mensah and his accomplice, who were being accommodated by the administrator at her apartment to guard her, attacked her in her room and used strands of cloths to tie her hands, legs and mouth and locked her in the bathroom before ransacking her room.

Mensah was charged with two counts of conspiracy and robbery but he pleaded not guilty.

Facts of case

Prosecuting, Inspector Grace Bandoh told the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that the complainant is an Indian and  resides at the North Industrial Area in Accra with the family.

She said Mensah and his accomplice, David Moris, were security guards with the Royal 2 Security Company Limited, who were assigned to provide security in the administrator’s house.

They were accommodated in the administrator’s house.

At about 12.30 p.m. on February 1, 2015, Mensah and his accomplice, who had planned to rob the administrator, armed themselves with machetes and went to the administrator’s room which is located on the first floor of the building.

The prosecution said when the two knocked the door of the administrator, she opened without hesitation because she thought she was secure.

“The two men quickly pushed her onto her bed, tied her hands, legs and mouth with strands of cloth, amidst severe beatings and carried her to her bathroom which is attached to the bedroom.

Mensah’s accomplice watched over her, while he ransacked the room, succeeding in taking a sum of GH¢2,600, an Asus Laptop valued at GH¢2,500 and three mobile phones worth GH¢1,120, Inspector Bandoh said.

After the act, she  said, the two security guards escaped to Kejetia in Kumasi where they shared the booty but decided to use the laptop together.

After Mensah had used the laptop for some time, the charger got spoilt so he went to a dealer of computer accessories for a new charger but the dealer told him that he had run out of stock and was expecting some the next day.

According to the prosecutor, Mensah left the computer in the care of the dealer who later suspected that the laptop might have been stolen and consequently alerted the police.

Mensah was arrested when he turned up to collect the charger the next day.
