Court to rule on bail application for 2 cops
The Accra Circuit Court will on June 23, 2014 rule on a bail application for two policemen who are standing trial for allegedly attempting to deal in narcotic drugs.

General Lance Corporal Haruna Nantogma, 35, and Lance Corporal Felix Osomi Teye, 35, are said to have seized powdery and rocky substances suspected to be cocaine and hoarded them in an attempt to sell them.
The court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, fixed the date last Wednesday, after an application was put in by the accused persons’ lawyers, Mr Ken Attafuah and Mr W. K. Owusu.
The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr Abraham Annor, opposed the application and prayed the court to remand the two policemen to enable the police to conduct thorough investigations.
Application for bail
In his application, Mr Attafuah expressed concern over the attitude of the prosecution towards the accused persons, pointing out that the evidence adduced against the two officers did not support the charges preferred against them.
He told the court that the charges levelled against Lance Corporal Teye after the police had taken his caution statement was different from the charges made against him when he was taken to court.
“My client was charged with possessing six substances for his personal use but this is a man who has never abused any substance, drunk alcohol or smoked even cigarette.”
Mr Owusu told the court that the prosecution had completed its investigations, “which allows the accused persons a right to apply for bail.”

Charges
General Lance Corporal Nantogma, a detective, and Lance Corporal Teye, an investigator, are charged with conspiracy to commit crime and the use of narcotic drugs.
They have, however, pleaded not guilty to both charges but were remanded when they appeared before the court on June 4, 2014.
Facts
General Lance Corporal Haruna Nantogma and Lance Corporal Felix Osomi Teye are stationed at the Madina and the East Legon police stations, respectively.
Following an order from the Circuit Court on May 30, 2014, the accused persons were arrested on June 2, 2014 for interrogation.
The prosecution said during investigations, it emerged that the two policemen had met a number of times at the Madina Police Station, the Fiesta Royal Hotel, Lapaz, and the Accra Shopping Mall.
The prosecution added that during those meetings, they planned, conspired together and arrested a man known as Ken Amuzu for possessing a total of 49 wraps of a powdery substance and four rocky items suspected to be cocaine.
According to the prosecution, the two policemen kept 10 wraps of the powdery substance and one of the rocky substance with the intention to sell them.
