The communities are Anyinasin, Tontro, Kukurantumi, Maase, Old Tafo, Osiem, Nobi and New Tafo.

The 20 individual farmers received 500 seedlings each, while the communities together received 10,000.

Making the presentation after an exhibition mounted by the institute at the Ohum Festival of the chiefs and people of Tafo, the Executive Director of CRIG, Dr Francis Amoah, said farmers in cocoa growing areas in the Brong Ahafo and Western regions had taken advantage of the seedlings and other products of the institute to improve on their farms

New technologies

He was, however, not happy that farmers in the Tafo area had not fully applied the new technologies to increase their cocoa yields.

"CRIG has done a lot by helping the cocoa industry. But for CRIG, the industry would not have fared well," he added.

Dr Amoah said the demonstration farms, to be known as Ohum Festival Farms, would be supported by the institute to adopt appropriate technologies, with the best farms receiving awards.

The Chief of Tafo, Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV, said the Ohum Festival Planning Committee decided to organise an educational tour for farmers to CRIG to enable them to appreciate the work of the institute.

He encouraged the farmers to adopt best practices in the cocoa industry.
