He said the current economic challenges, coupled with other issues, made it imperative for the church to take up the responsibility of ensuring that the youth were protected from societal pressures.

"The church must be there to protect the vulnerable entities in our society by coming up with strategies to meet the needs of this group of people. We should not forsake the physically challenged. We must support them as a nation and community," he added.

Right Reverend Amenu was addressing the first synod of the Eastern Presbytery of the EP Church Ghana in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

He said workable investment avenues must also be pursued so that "our people running to the big cities would be reduced”.

Right Reverend Amenu charged the newly created Eastern Presbytery to hold the banner of Christ very high by ensuring that the human resource of the presbytery was harnessed for the development of the church.

In a speech read on her behalf, the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Miss Mavis Ama Frimpong, commended the EP Church for its significant roles in the areas of education, health, agriculture and skills training and development.

The synod moderator of the Eastern Presbytery,  Reverend R. A. Y. Daketse, called for peaceful co- existence among Ghanaians.
