ECG engages meter readers to enhance billing accuracy
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Volta, and Oti regions have started an initiative requiring monthly meter readings for customers in the two regions.
The decision comes in response to ongoing concerns about inaccuracies in quarterly billing, with the company striving to ensure that all customers receive bills reflective of their actual electricity usage.

The quarterly meter reading policy implemented by the ECG for customers in the Volta and Oti regions raised a lot of agitation among customers.
The company acknowledged the concerns raised by many customers regarding estimated bills generated from quarterly meter readings.
To address these issues and provide customers with accurate billing, ECG Volta and Oti have decided to implement a new policy to ensure that customers receive actual bills based on their true electricity consumption.
This is to eliminate the uncertainties associated with estimated billing.
Importance
The Regional Commercial Manager of the ECG, Solomon Adjiku, said the company had been actively engaging with meter readers across various districts to reinforce the importance of accurate readings.
During his visits to the Kpando, Hohoe, and Denu districts, he emphasised the company's commitment to enhancing customer service by providing transparent and fair billing based on actual consumption.

"Moving to monthly meter readings will not only help us reduce billing errors but also foster better communication with our customers," Mr Adjiku stated during a recent meeting with meter readers.
"We want our customers to feel confident that they are only paying for the electricity consumed."
The decision to shift from quarterly to monthly readings in the Volta and Oti regions is part of a broader initiative by ECG to improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
By ensuring that meters are read more frequently, ECG aims to provide customers with timely and accurate bills, ultimately reducing the incidence of disputes that arise from estimated charges.

He said customers in the Volta and Oti regions should expect to see the initiative's benefits as the company implements the new reading schedule.
