Farmer in court for assisting rapist

A 45-year-old-farmer, Vincent Blebu, is before an Accra Magistrate’s Court for aiding in the rape of a 31-year-old trader, Margaret Mensah.

Blebu was charged with abetment of crime to wit rape, but his plea was not taken. He has subsequently been remanded into police custody.

The facts of the case as presented by Sergeant Lois Konadu to the court, presided over by Ms Arit Nsemoh, were that Margaret is a trader living with her mother and children.

She said on January 14, 2016, at 12 p.m., Margaret went to buy some Okro. On her way home, she realised she was thirsty and stopped by the house of one Emmanuel Mensah (now at large) to ask for some water.

According to the prosecutor, Margaret met six men and a lady talking in the compound of the house. She requested for some water and was served.

Prosecutor Konadu said after drinking the water, Mensah carried her into his room even though Margaret demanded that she should be released.

Mensah pushed her unto the bed and held her neck, while she screamed and shouted for help.

Sergeant Konadu said Mensah removed Margaret’s waist cloth and used it to cover her mouth, tore her pants and slept with her.

The prosecutor said while this was going on, Blebu was outside peeping through the window and asked Mensah if he was done with her. Mensah’s response was no.

After Blebu’s question, Mensah had two more rounds  with her and finally let her go.

Margaret proceeded to report her ordeal to the police and was issued a medical form, examined and treated.

Blebu was subsequently arrested.
