Fire destroys multiple shops near Ho Technical University

A late-evening fire has destroyed several businesses at Nogora Junction, near Ho Technical University in the Volta Region.

The blaze, which broke out shortly before 6 pm on Wednesday, August 13, swept through a popular pub known as Nogora, two boutiques, and other nearby shops, leaving owners counting heavy losses.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said its crews worked for more than two hours to bring the flames under control.

The Ho Municipal Fire Commander, Divisional Fire Officer Grade II Sedem Tay, confirmed that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Although the origin of the blaze has not been officially established, some residents suspect an electrical fault may have triggered it. Eyewitnesses say the power supply to the area had been unstable throughout the day.

One shop owner estimated losses of more than one million Ghana cedis. “The lights have been on and off all day… I suspect it is an electrical fault somewhere,” he said.

No casualties were reported, but the incident has impacted several livelihoods.
