Fire fighters still battle inferno at Central Medical Stores

After nearly 20 hours of sheer exhaustion and courage, personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service and volunteers have still not managed to contain the inferno that engulfed the Central Medical Stores of the Ghana Health Service in Tema.

As of 5am Wednesday morning when Graphiconline’s Benjamin Glover returned to the scene, all the fire appliances had retreated with the fire still razing.

One police pickup and a skeletal personnel were keeping guard duties.

The entire warehouse except the mechanical workshop was still up in flames

So far no injuries or death have been reported.

The warehouse stored medical equipment and drugs which are distributed across the country to other health facilities.

The fire began when someone at the facility reportedly tried to burn refuse near the incinerator.

As the fire spread, workers began to move away from the building while others managed to enter untouched parts of the building to remove some documents and other office equipment.

Thick, black smoke billowed into the sky as fire fighters sprayed nearby offices with water to prevent embers and heat from spreading the fire.
