Firefighters battle domestic fire in Weija, commercial blaze at China Market, Kasoa

Firefighters from the Weija Fire Station responded to a domestic fire at Weija Sampa Valley in the early hours of today, July 23, and later battled a commercial fire at China Market, Kasoa, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has announced.

According to a GNFS statement on Facebook, the first alert was received at 5:14 am, and the crew arrived at 5:38 am to find the fire actively in progress.

Firefighters engaged the blaze immediately and prevented it from spreading to adjacent rooms and nearby structures. One bedroom and its contents were destroyed, but no injuries or casualties were recorded.

Later, the same station responded to a commercial fire at China Market in Kasoa after an alert at 8:53 pm on July 22. The crew arrived at 9:16 pm to find metal containers well alight. Reinforcement appliances were requested from Anyaa and Swedru to assist. Through joint efforts, the crews contained the blaze and saved the main China Market building.

The contents of one metal container were completely burnt, and a second container suffered partial damage. One male adult was rescued from the scene and transported to hospital by civilians before suppression was completed.

The causes of both fires remain under investigation.

The GNFS commended the swift coordination of all responding crews and urged the public and business community to prioritise fire safety measures and report outbreaks promptly.
