The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old suspect in connection with an alleged robbery at Asabi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality after a night patrol team responded to a distress report.
According to a police statement issued on Wednesday, the incident occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on July 21, 2026, when the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team, while on routine patrol, received information that a man had been robbed of his mobile phone and was lying unconscious near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.
The patrol team rushed to the scene, where the suspect allegedly fled on seeing the officers and hid in an uncompleted building. Police said the officers gave chase and arrested him.
The suspect has been identified as Ahmed Mustapha, 19.
A search of the suspect led to the retrieval of the complainant's mobile phone and a machete, which police have retained as exhibits.
Police said the victim suffered machete wounds to the forehead, neck and left hand.
He was taken to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
The statement said the suspect remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations.
It added that officers visited the victim at the hospital at about 5:30 a.m. on the same day and found that he had regained consciousness. He was said to be in a stable condition and continues to receive treatment under observation.
