Former President Rawlings lauds outgoing Liberia Vice President

Former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings has lauded the outgoing Liberia Vice-President, Joseph Boakai for helping to ensure a successful Presidential election in his country.

He described Mr Boakai as a man of integrity, “I believe the new government would welcome ideas and suggestions from someone like him. While he may be a prominent leader in the opposition he owes his country and the government that patriotic duty,” Mr. Rawlings added.

Former President Rawlings made the commendation when Mr Boakai and his wife Katumu Yatta paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Accra on Thursday.

According to a press statement issued by the communication Directorate of the Former President, Mr Boakai who contested the last Presidential election and lost to incoming President George Weah, held fruitful discussions with the former President on the transition in Liberia.

For his part, Mr Boakai also a professional business administrator and once served as a Minister of Agriculture, expressed the willingness to assist whichever way he could.

He returned home on Friday ahead of the inauguration of President George Weah and Vice-President Jewel Taylor at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium on Monday, January 22.
