Four injured in taxi–truck collision at Kotokuraba in Cape Coast
Four people sustained injuries on Wednesday morning when a taxi collided with a truck at Kotokuraba in Cape Coast in the Central Region.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to the crash after receiving a distress call at about 10:28 a.m. on March 11, according to a statement posted on the Service’s official Facebook page.
Firefighters from the Cape Coast Metropolitan Fire Station arrived at the scene four minutes later, at 10:32 a.m., and immediately began rescue operations.
The accident involved a Toyota Echo taxi with registration number GW 5934-14 and a Samsung Yamouzine truck bearing registration number CR 487-18.
Upon arrival, the rescue team found four injured persons at the scene — three men and one woman. The victims were quickly transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and Ewim Polyclinic for medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations by the fire service suggest that brake failure on the truck may have caused the crash.
The collision left the taxi extensively damaged, while the truck sustained partial damage to its engine compartment.
Firefighters also cleared debris from the road and assisted in moving the damaged vehicles to restore the flow of traffic in the busy Kotokuraba area.
The incident briefly disrupted movement in the commercial district, which is one of the busiest transport hubs in Cape Coast.
