Free cervical cancer screening for residents of Otinibi
The Rotaract Club of Adentan, in partnership with African Cancer Organisation (ACO), has organised a one-day free cervical cancer screening exercise in Accra.

The health screening exercise was on the theme "Raise a Skirt and Save a Life". The exercise was targeted at creating awareness of cancer among residents of the Otinibi community.
The activity was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Accra-North.
A member of the project committee of the Rotaract Club of Adentan, Ms Stephanie Owusu-Darko, said the club chose to undertake the project in Otinibi because of the relationship between the club and residents.
“Also among the reasons we are here is because in Otinibi, not everyone can afford to go to hospital,” she said.
She said in addition to that, the club had begun putting up a library in one of the schools in the Otinibi community.
The Executive Director of the African Cancer Organisation (ACO), Mr Paul Opoku Agyemang, said the organisation was embarking on a nationwide campaign on cervical cancer and its control.
He said the goal of the campaign was to sensitise both men and women to the disease and assist people with cervical cancer to seek treatment.
“The African Cancer Organisation will make sure that those who test positive will receive all the medical assistance they may require,” he said.
Mr Agyemang said the screening exercise would be extended to other communities. He encouraged the government and non-governmental organisations to undertake health screening exercises, particularly in deprived communities, to help raise the inhabitants’ level of awareness of some debilitating diseases.
