Friends steal pregnant goat for Valentine

For stealing a goat to celebrate Valentine, two friends, Francis Kweku Bordebo, a driver’s mate, and Yao Mensah, a farmer, have been sentenced to 14 months’ imprisonment each for stealing.

The two stole one pregnant goat valued at GH¢350, the property of Joyce Keteku of Fintey near Frankadua and were charged on two counts of conspiracy to commit crime and stealing.

Each received seven months for each offence to run concurrently when they pleaded guilty to both charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Richmond Akwasi Yeboah, told the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Frank Gbeddy, that the complainant, Joyce, and Bordebo live at Fintey while Mensah is a native of Fiakope near Fintey.

According to the prosecutor, on February 14, 2016, Mensah visited Bordebo to celebrate Valentine’s Day and they planned to steal the complainant’s goat.

ASP Yeboah said the following day, at about 1:00 a.m. the two went to the house of Joyce with a sack and a sharp cutlass and slaughtered the biggest goat which was pregnant and put it into the sack.

The prosecutor said in the process the grandfather of Joyce who was sleeping outside spotted them and raised an alarm.

He said Bordebo dropped the sack containing the stolen goat and they both took to their heels. Mensah was, however, arrested and he mentioned Bordebo as his accomplice.

The Fintey Unit Committee traced Bordebo to Kisifli in the Volta Region, got him arrested and sent him to the Frankadua Police Station.

In their caution statements they both admitted the offence and pleaded for leniency.
