That developed stretch of road constitutes the first phase of the 19.5-km long Barekese-Adugyama road.

The people of Fufuo and six adjoining communities, with a population of about 12,500 who predominantly grow maize and cocoa, stand to benefit immensely from the project.

The previously bad and dusty road had had adverse effects on the health of the people in the area. The people, under the circumstances, were not able to transport foodstuff to the cities in large volumes and this affected their income levels.

In a media encounter with the Fufuo community, both the Chief of Fufuo, Nana Owusu Ansah, and the Asantehene’s Kwansentuomhene, Nana Kwame Asante II, commended the government for tarring the Barekese-Fufuo road.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya, Nana Asare Bediako, and the Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya North, Mr Benito Owusu Bio, were also commended for their efforts in getting the road tarred.

The chiefs noted that following the completion of the road, maize production in the area would be enhanced. They nonetheless requested that the dusty street running through the Fufuo community should also be tarred to relieve the people from respiratory illnesses.

Other difficulties which the chiefs urged the government to solve for them included access to potable water and computers for the study of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in schools in the area.

The Assembly Member for the Fufuo Electoral Area, Frank Osei Bonsu, requested for waste containers to help improve on sanitation in the community.
