GCAA assures uninterrupted air traffic services despite threat of industrial action

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has assured the travelling public, airline operators, and other aviation stakeholders that air traffic services will continue without interruption, despite a planned industrial action by the Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association (GhATSEA) scheduled for Thursday, October 30, 2025.

In a press release issued on October 29, the authority said it had activated a comprehensive contingency plan to ensure the safe, reliable, and secure operation of air traffic services within the Accra Flight Information Region (FIR) throughout the period of the threatened strike.

According to the GCAA, the management has implemented a Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) Systems Contingency Plan designed to maintain operational continuity and prevent disruptions to both domestic and international flight operations.

The plan includes detailed operational procedures, designated response teams, and strong coordination mechanisms aimed at safeguarding aviation safety and ensuring service integrity.

The authority emphasised that these measures were part of its broader commitment to uphold international aviation standards and sustain public confidence in Ghana’s airspace management.

“The travelling public, airlines, and all aviation stakeholders are assured that we have put in place adequate measures to sustain the seamless flow of air navigation services during the period,” the release stated.

The GCAA further reiterated its dedication to maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and security in its operations. It also reaffirmed its commitment to continuous staff development and welfare, stressing that human capital remains central to the Authority’s success.

The proposed strike by GhATSEA comes amid ongoing engagements between the Association and GCAA management over unresolved welfare-related issues. However, the authority noted that it remains open to dialogue and is working collaboratively with all relevant stakeholders to ensure industrial harmony while maintaining Ghana’s reputation as a safe and efficient aviation hub in the subregion.
