The Acting Chief Operating Officer of GCB Bank Ltd, Mr Robert Adamu, presenting the computers, said the presentation was in response to a request by the leadership of the GAFCSC for the computers to complement the college's objective of upgrading its information and communications technology infrastructure.

He expressed the hope that the items would enhance teaching and learning, especially online distance learning programmes, which were of international standard.

Mr Adamu said one of the major branches of the bank was located at Burma Camp, where it provides banking services for members of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Relationship

He said the relationship between the bank and the GAFCSC dated to 1976, and had been growing for almost four decades because of the common interest to promote peace, financial, economic, social and political stability for the development of Ghana.

"As two of the most critical Ghanaian institutions, it is not surprising that we value this symbolic relationship and continue to enhance it for our mutual benefit", he stated.

Mr. Adamu further stated that the bank was aware of the expansion and transformation programmes the college had undergone over the years.

Centre of excellence

Receiving the computers, the Commandant of GAFCSC, Air Vice Marshall Issifu Kadri, said GAFCSC was a centre of excellence with a mandate to train strategic level military officers from Ghana and sister African countries for key positions in their armed forces.

He said the GAFCSC had moved from a paper environment to a paperless environment and that it was to sustain this that it needed electronic equipment such as computers, and fax machines, among other gadgets.

He said the GAFCSC in January this year started a master’s degree programme in defence and international politics  and opened its doors to the general public so that any member of the security services as well as the civilian populace could benefit from the facilities they had.

"To enrich the programme and make it attractive we need to maintain a high standard to be competitive on the international scene" he said.
